Six Sentence Sunday

I'm sure most of you have read the Wall Street Journal article that claims YA literature seeks to deprave teens. I'm not going to spend a lot of time talking about it. Mainly because it irks me that this journalist sees teens as impressionable idiots and that YA literature is corrupting them. Anyway, check out the hashtag on twitter #yasaves  Great stories there about how YA books and community have helped raise awareness on issues and promotes tolerance. Or just seeks to entertain.

So here is the 6 Sentence Sunday Post. It's from Half-Blood, between Alex and Caleb.

“Alex, she’s the oracle. She’ll be alive until the next one comes into power.”

I rolled my eyes at Caleb. “She’s just a nutty old woman. Communes with the gods? The only things she communes with are the trees and her bridge club.”

  1. Well, from the way twitter was flooded with #YAsaves, it's safe to say a lot of people are irked (to put it nicely) like you, me 100% included :-)

  2. I read the WSJ article and it made me smile. Why? Because when the fuddies start talking about how inappropriate stuff is for impressionable youth, it makes that impressionable youth just want it MORE.
