Distraction and Six Sentence Sunday

Today I wanted to talk about distraction while writing. I have discovered this evil, evil game called Angry Birds. I don't know what I like about it so much. Maybe it's the mindless clicking. Maybe it's the pretty colors. Or maybe, in my case, it's the noises the birds and pigs make. I find myself making the noises along with them.

This is particularly concerning to my husband.

So this is how my writing has been going: Write a sentence. Play a round of Angry Birds. Lose round. Write two or three sentences. Check Twitter. Play a round of Angry Birds. Win round. Play another round. Lose new round. Write a paragraph (maybe). Play a round of Angry Birds. Squeal win a beat a round that has taken me nearly the whole day to win. Write some more.

This is NOT productive. As if Twitter, Goodreads, blogs, Facebook and instant messaging hadn't distracted me enough already.

So what distracts YOU when you are writing or reading? Discuss in the comments!

And this week's Six Sentence Sunday comes From Half-Blood and is between Alex and the ever popular Seth. Enjoy!

He twisted his hands and grasped mine. Those amber eyes flared, like he was up for the challenge. After a few terse moments, he broke away and stood. “There’s the attitude I have come to know and loathe.”

I flipped him off, but the bad thing was, his general annoyingness had somehow reached me. Not that I’d admit it. Ever.

Don't forget to enter the May Book of your choice and Half-Blood ARC contest. Ends May 31st!

Hope you enjoyed and have a great Memorial Day weekend!

  1. Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, Twitter, and my desire to read have been very distracting lately. Actually, those are the reasons that I am awake and typing this now. I was distracted all day and was not productive at all. Finally at 10pm I started to get some work done, but now it is almost 4 and I am ready for bed.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend! =)

  2. Oh, Seth.... <3

I've discovered a game on Facebook called Wedding Street. This is the girliest I will EVER admit to being, but I. Love. This. Game.

Also, my Xbox has a nasty habit of distracting me. Dragon Age Origins in particular. I have a love affair with Alistair and it's interfering with my work... What is it with me and guys whose names start with "A"?

    Happy Memorial Day, dear!

  3. Seth + Alex = something extremely awesome to read about <3

LOL I'm an Angry Birds fanatic too! It's such a fun and addicting game, no matter how simple -- but simple doesn't make it easy! Not even a little bit.

    Can't wait 'til Half-Blood comes out! :)

  4. For me, the question is, "What's not a distraction?" Even daydreaming about what I'm gonna write next has proven to be counter-productive at times! I think I must have ADD (at least when I'm supposed to be writing)!

Anyway, I've left you a little something on my blog. Hope you like it! http://lormandela.blogspot.com/2011/06/half-past-awesome-irresistibly-sweet.html

    Very excited for Half-Blood!!
